It might not happen right away but rest assured that pride has a way of breaking down our relationships to the point that all we are left with is what pride started\u2026, <em>self<\/em>. \u201cBefore destruction a man\u2019s heart is haughty, but\u00a0humility comes before honor (Psalms 18:12 ESV).\u201d<\/p><p>It\u2019s important for you to examine your heart.\u00a0 Begin to be aware of your interactions and get a feeling if pride is seeping in.\u00a0 Tension, conflict, and emotional distance are good indicators if the corrosion of pride is at the center your heart. \u00a0If feelings of anger arise because you didn\u2019t get what you wanted chances are the seed is trying to germinate.\u00a0 The opposite is true with humility, because it has a way of bringing stillness to the water.\u00a0 When we put others before us a better support is created to work through difficulties; things get done, and the atmosphere is peaceful.\u00a0 Pride keeps chaos swirling around us like a violent tornado destroying everything in its path.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nist.gov\/disaster-failure-studies\/champlain-towers-south-collapse-ncst-investigation\/background\">https:\/\/www.nist.gov\/disaster-failure-studies\/champlain-towers-south-collapse-ncst-investigation\/background<\/a><\/p><p>Paul once formerly known as Saul in the Bible shares what the pride of life cost him.\u00a0 Before coming to a true understanding of humbleness after being blinded on the road to Damascus and encountering Jesus, he killed and in prisoned Christians.\u00a0<\/p><p>I was just as zealous\u00a0for God as any of you are today.\u00a0<strong><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>I persecuted\u00a0the followers of this Way\u00a0to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison,\u00a0<strong><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>as the high priest and all the Council\u00a0can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates\u00a0in Damascus and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.\u00a0 <strong><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201cAbout noon as I came near Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around me.\u00a0<strong><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me,\u00a0\u2018Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?\u2019<\/p><p><strong><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201c\u2018Who are you, Lord?\u2019 I asked.<\/p><p>\u201c\u00a0\u2018I am Jesus of Nazareth,\u00a0whom you are persecuting,\u2019\u00a0he replied.\u00a0<strong><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>My companions saw the light,\u00a0but they did not understand the voice\u00a0of him who was speaking to me.<\/p><p><strong><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>\u201c\u2018What shall I do, Lord?\u2019 I asked.<\/p><p>\u201c\u00a0\u2018Get up,\u2019\u00a0the Lord said,\u00a0\u2018and go into Damascus. There you will be told all that you have been assigned to do.\u2019\u00a0<strong><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/strong>My companions led me by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me.\u201d (Acts 22:3-11 NIV)<\/p><p>It took blindness for Paul to begin to see again.\u00a0 How Ironic, what we may seem to be living in the light, pride has a way of darkening our path.\u00a0 When we allow pride to take its course it\u2019s like rolling waves that drag us out to see and leave us stranded.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s believing we can build what we want when we want and never have any ill effects.\u00a0 The reality is just like Paul leaving a wake of destruction in his path, if we are not careful all we will find is remains of crumbled pieces beneath us to represent what family use to be like.<\/p><p>According to Proverbs 16:18 NIV, Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.\u201d<\/p><p>A spirit of humility allows you to build on the rocks where the rolling tides can never reach.\u00a0 When you live a selfless life God raises you up and protects you.
