I once heard of a story of a distraught young man going into counseling for his addictions.\u00a0 He grasped the armrest of the chair tightly and asked the pastor, \u201cSo what can you do for me to break through the addiction I have had for so many years?\u201d\u00a0 The pastor quietly waited as if preparing to jump off a diving board.\u00a0 \u201cSon, you really only have one problem,\u201d he expressed, \u201cyou really don\u2019t hurt bad enough.\u201d The young man became irate, \u201cI didn\u2019t come here to be pounced on!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cHear me out,\u201d stated the pastor, \u201cchange will only occur when you hurt to the point you really want to change.\u201d\u00a0 The pastor continued, \u201cOutside of that, you will continue to hurt yourself and those who love you.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

Between the young man and the pastor which side would you choose and why?<\/p>

Sometimes it takes an overwhelming breakdown to have an undeniable breakthrough.<\/p>

A breakthrough can only take place when you are sick and tired of being sick and tired.\u00a0 Insanity is to continue to do the same thing expecting a different result.\u00a0 If we are honest, we lack breakthroughs when we become comfortable<\/strong> in the place we are in, or we resist <\/strong>the ability to change when opportunities come our way for help.\u00a0 Sir Isaac Newton coined this the Law of inertia<\/strong>, which is the ability to resist change or continue moving forward unless interrupted.\u00a0 A breakthrough will only occur with the change in time usage, form new habits, commitment<\/u><\/em>, etc. which causes us to act.\u00a0 In other words, a force <\/strong>must be applied to move an object from its state of being.\u00a0 For us to see change there must be an outer change or force acting on us (God), <\/strong>and an inner change (Will)<\/strong> working together to create change.\u00a0 The soccer ball at rest in the image will never change unless it\u2019s kicked, and sometimes, we need a swift kick to change our trajectory.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The breakthrough is on the other side of what you are resisting.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>

    Let\u2019s summarize the breakthrough points for today.\u00a0<\/p>

    • Could it be you are not hurting enough?<\/strong> Are you in a place of comfort to the point change is difficult? Recall, that we can only break through when we have had enough.\u00a0 For example, I once heard of a story of a man who wanted to change his life.\u00a0 He met a guru who promised him transformation and riches.\u00a0 \u201cSon, get dressed in your finest attire and meet me at the beach,\u201d the guru expressed.\u00a0 Early the next morning the young man fitted with his best attire met the guru at the beach.\u00a0 Perplexed, the young man began walking on the beach with his finest shoes as the sand crunched beneath him.\u00a0 \u201cCome on,\u201d said the guru, \u201ccome on in.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou mean you want me to go in the water?\u201d shouted the young man to the teacher in the water submerged to his waist.\u00a0 \u201cYou said you wanted to change, right?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cNow is your breakthrough,\u201d the guru retorted back.\u00a0 Each step brought on a grimacing look to the young man.\u00a0 Now submerged to the waist, the teacher challenged him to go deeper. \u201cThis is crazy,\u201d thought the young man.\u00a0 Slowly the young man moved to the level of the water at his neck. \u00a0Then out of nowhere, the guru submerged his entire head holding him under as he struggled to breathe.\u00a0 \u201cWhat are you doing?\u201d screamed the young man, \u201ctrying to kill me?\u201d \u201cJust teaching you that unless you live life like it\u2019s your last breath you will never be successful,\u201d expressed the guru as the water cascaded off his body.<\/li>
    • Avoid inertia, by being aware of things, environments, and choices that keep you stagnant.<\/strong><\/li>
    • Breakthrough will only occur when you live life like it\u2019s your last breath.<\/strong> If you only had one month to live, how would you approach living life?\u00a0 What would you do differently?<\/li><\/ul>
