The Success Habit 8 Day Devotional
This week’s devotional comes from the book the ONE THING by Gary Keller with Jay Papasan. Extraordinary results don’t come by doing more but by simply doing the one thing that will get you further in life. This week I will introduce you to the success habit as we explore what God has to say.
“Success is simple. Do what’s right, the right way, at the right time.”
—Arnold Glasow
Success is often portrayed as something distant—something reserved for the gifted, the lucky, or the already accomplished. But what if success is not a moment… but a pattern?
What if it’s built quietly—decision by decision, thought by thought, day by day, prayer by prayer?
Every habit you carry today was once a choice you repeated. Over time, those choices formed pathways—ways of thinking, responding, and living that now feel natural. The truth is, change doesn’t happen overnight. It is cultivated through consistency, through grace-filled effort, through moments of trying, failing, learning, and trying again.
In Romans 12:2, we are reminded not to conform to the patterns of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. This transformation is not surface-level—it is deeply internal. It reshapes how we think, how we choose, and ultimately how we live.
The more you walk a path, the clearer it becomes. What once felt difficult begins to feel natural. What once required effort becomes part of who you are.
And this is the invitation:
To stop chasing change…
and start becoming it.
Through daily surrender, time in God’s Word, and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, righteousness shifts from something we strive for into something we live from.
Today is not just another day. It is a starting point.
A moment to choose differently.
To think differently.
To live differently.
Because when you consistently do what is right—God doesn’t just change your actions…
He transforms your identity.
👉 Call to Action:
Don’t just read these words—walk them out. Commit to the next 8 days. Show up daily. Reflect honestly. Apply intentionally. Let God reshape your habits, renew your mind, and redefine your life.
This isn’t about becoming who you wish you could be…
This is about becoming who God created you to be.
🌿 8-Day Devotional
Day 1: Start With Awareness
📖 Romans 12:2 calls Christians to avoid conforming to worldly, sinful patterns and instead be transformed by renewing their minds, allowing them to discern and follow God’s good, perfect will. It emphasizes active, daily spiritual change over conforming to cultural pressures.
Reflection:
Transformation begins when you become aware of what’s shaping you. Are your thoughts leading you toward truth… or toward fear, comparison, and pressure?
Action:
Pause today and write down 3 recurring thoughts. Ask: Do these align with God’s truth?
Day 2: Small Choices, Big Change
📖 Luke 16:10 often quoted as “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much,” teaches that integrity in small matters (like money or daily tasks) reflects character and prepares a person for greater responsibilities. It emphasizes stewardship and that faithfulness in small things leads to being trusted with more.
Reflection:
Success is not built in big moments—it’s built in small, consistent choices. What you do daily matters more than what you do occasionally.
Action:
Choose one small “right” action today—and follow through no matter what.
Day 3: Renew Your Mind Daily
📖 Philippians 4:8 is a Bible verse instructing believers to focus their minds on positive, godly, and virtuous things—true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy things. It serves as a guide for maintaining a healthy thought life, directing focus away from negativity and toward God
Reflection:
Your mind is a garden. What you plant grows. What you ignore can take over.
Action:
Replace one negative thought with a truth from Scripture today.
Day 4: Discipline Creates Freedom
📖 Hebrews 12:11 states that while discipline is painful and unpleasant in the moment, it later produces a “harvest of righteousness and peace” for those trained by it. This verse highlights that God’s discipline is a loving, purposeful process designed for spiritual growth rather than punishment.
Reflection:
Discipline may feel uncomfortable now, but it produces peace and strength later.
Action:
Do one thing today you’ve been avoiding—but know is right.
Day 5: Follow the Spirit, Not Feelings
📖 Galatians 5:16 Galatians 5:16 (ESV) states: “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.” This verse teaches that actively relying on the Holy Spirit enables believers to overcome sinful impulses. It promises victory over the flesh’s desires through daily, spiritual guidance rather than human effort.
Reflection:
Feelings are real, but they are not always reliable. The Spirit leads you into truth—even when it’s hard.
Action:
Before making a decision today, pause and pray: Holy Spirit, guide me.
Day 6: Stay Consistent
📖 Galatians 6:9 (NIV) states: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” It encourages perseverance in righteous actions despite exhaustion or delayed results, promising a future reward for those who continue to do good
Reflection:
You may not see results yet—but growth is happening beneath the surface.
Action:
Don’t quit today. Stay faithful in what God has already shown you.
Day 7: Identity Over Outcome
📖 2 Corinthians 5:17states that anyone united with Christ is a new creation; the old life is gone, and a new life has begun. This verse emphasizes a total spiritual transformation—not just improvement—where believers receive a new nature, perspective, and life in Christ
Reflection:
You’re not just changing habits—you’re becoming a new creation. Your identity fuels your actions.
Action:
Declare: I am being transformed by God daily.
Day 8: Live the New Way
📖 James 1:22 instructs believers to “be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (NKJV). It emphasizes that simply listening to or studying scripture is insufficient; true faith requires actively applying its teachings to daily life, as failing to act on biblical truth leads to self-deception.
Reflection:
Transformation is complete when truth becomes your lifestyle—not just something you visit.
Action:
Choose one habit from this week to continue long-term.
“If this blessed you, don’t stop here. Transformation happens through consistency. Save this, share it, and walk it out daily. Your new life is built one faithful step at a time.”
