Today we will explore how taking small steps towards your win will eventually lead you to your destination.

Creating the Life, You Want is a Choice of Small Steps

Tom Ziglar shares that most people coast along the slow lane of mediocrity unless they are trying to avoid an accident or get into one.  In other words, for mediocre people change must be forced upon them.  Have you heard of the statement that most people only change when they hit rock bottom, if they make it out altogether?  Today take the first step and be intentional with the things you want to change in your life.  Journal them out to visualize them.  Next consider the small steps it will take daily to get you there.

Commit to win with one small step at a time.

Committing to win takes small steps.  During a 26 Mile Marathon Michelle Khare a dare devil, during an episode of “Challenge Accepted”, on YouTube, pushed herself to the extreme by running a marathon in Death Valley.  She chooses the hottest time of the year to conquer her fear of turning 30 years old.  As the squelching heat beat down on her worn body as each pound of the asphalt radiated heat back into the soles of her sneakers she contemplated giving up.  Her running mate Legendary 2 x Bad Water Champion and Legendary Brooks Ultra Runner swiftly and empathetically encouraged her to keep going. As she ran each agonizing mile, grimacing in pain, she asked the question “how did you do it?” He stated if you take one small step after another you will eventually get there.  Not only did she complete 26 miles but pushed through to reach the symbolic 30-mile mark.  Today what is your small step that will lead you to the platform of your dreams.  Remember, when you feel like giving up, take one more step.

David took small steps to be the King of Israel

When David was called to be anointed King you would be led to believe the palace would await him immediately.  The crowds would line up to ask him for his autograph and all the social media would create an amazing buzz. (If there was social media at that time).  Yet David was sent back to the field to tend to the sheep and protect them from predators.  To make matters worse he became his brothers Uber Eats as he was sent with food to nourish his them.  Though ridiculed and mocked at his arrival on the battle ground for his size and age, this was the moment that awaited him as he took out the most feared man alive, Goliath with a sling shot and smooth stone.  Even then he was still responsible for tending the sheep.

Next, David was summoned to the palace to comfort and drive out demons away from the king of Israel Saul with the harp that he played.  Think about it, not a promotion to kingship but as servant for the king.  Finally, as popularity increased, Saul the current King of Israel grew Jealous and attempted to kill him.  The point is, eventually, all the small steps and setbacks positioned him to be the King as promised.  Your setbacks are your comebacks. The insignificant things you are doing right now will lead you to significance later.

Smalls Steps lead to progress and setbacks lead to Come Backs

I can recall the day I sat in the principal’s office after my temporary certification for teaching expired.  As I sulked with my face between my knee’s I understood that after failing my state test two times I would have to be let go.  My principal shared, if you trust the process, I want to keep you on as a sub but once you past your test you will receive everything back retro and be reinstated.  I was caught between a rock and hard place because my salary would be significantly cut.  I thought to myself, “how could I support my new family and handle the mortgage?” I could go back to working at Publix Supermarket and take the offer to move up or make the sacrifice and pursue my dreams.  I choose the but with a new mindset.  I would dissect the practice test into small mini steps and not only research the and learn what the correct questions were but analyze the incorrect questions.  Next step would be to create 3 x 5 flash cards of the same questions and to rewrite as many notes as possible on a single page.  Finally, the day of the test I would maximize the full allotted time and comb through each question always committing to my first response if it had more support.

As I walked out of the testing site and place my trust in God’s hand.  I did my part and now it was time for him to do his.  Test results took time and those days as I had to wait for three weeks to find out the results through the mail.  As each day passed, I grew with eagerness to find out my score and finally the day camp.  As my wife opened the envelope it read PASSED.  What was the difference, small steps, and consistency?  Today is your turn to attack what you have always been dreaming of taking small steps and remaining consistent.
