• Fear of Commitment: People tend to shy away from accountability. The perspective of many who fear commitment is it’s easier not to be accountable than to let others down or to be let down.  Commitment seems to feel like a hot potato, “how many obligations can I pass on to others without taking responsibility?”  What are some other reasons people may fear commitment?

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this (bring it to pass) (Psalms 35:5).

Why is it important to be committed to the Lord?

What results when you follow through in either a task or relationship and remain committed?

There are two action steps we are responsible for, (1) commit and (2) trust.  Commitment allows you to have a breakthrough because it develops resilience.  In other words, it’s the ability to keep going when you have nothing left. Marathon runners call this running through the wall, which is the point where the body and mind say stop, but the will says yes you can.  This is the point where you hear the voice in your head say, “Give up on your marriage, your children, or life in general but God’s voice swoops in as a gentle whisper, “Trust me, and take courage, I will take you to the other side.”

Moses when he lifted the rod before crossing the Red Sea committed to saving thousands to help them crossover to the other side.  With odds stacked against him the enemy at his back and the sea in front of him, Moses decided to jump in and observe the sea open on both sides providing passage for the people of God.

Today I challenge you to commit to your dreams, relationships, and the hope you seek by lifting your hands and jumping in.  Face the fear and watch the walls rise on both sides giving you access to safe passage through.

What areas would you like to be committed to? (Family, finances, spiritual, etc.)

What must you be committed to finishing (habit developing)

Example: Family

·      Be intentional with my time with my wife

·      Take walks with my wife

·      Truly listen and respond back

There is nothing worse than wasting your time, talents, and energy because you are not aware of signs that recognize a lack of commitment.  Lack of commitment can come in many different forms, from building a relationship to trusting and relying on God and even as simple as completing obligations and responsibilities.
