Objectives of Relationship Skills Part 1.

  • In the lessons you will draw connections in various levels of relationship by drawing evidence from selected movie clips.
  • So that (1) you can explain the dangers of gossip and how it hurts others.  (2) Explain the importance of apologizing effectively; (3) List ways you could help a substitute feel welcomed and assisted in class; (4)  Describe a healthy relationship of among friends: Provide your interpretations of what the quote is saying by sharing with your group.

The Dangers of Gossip

  1. In the movie clip of Encanto how could you tell gossiping was going on?
  2. Whys is it wrong to gossip about people?
  3. How does gossip hurt people? Overall school culture?
  4. What would you do if you overheard gossip about a friend?

I Am So So Sorry!

  1. Tell about a time that you needed to apologize.  What happened?
  2. What did you say/how did you approach that situation? What was the outcome?
  3. How do you think you could improve your ability to apologize effectively?

The Substitute Teacher

  1. How do you feel/act when you have a substitute teacher?
  2. Think about a change you went through recently either at home or school.  How did you adapt to that change?
  3. What is one strategy you could use to help you better adjust to change or unexpected events?
  4. List several way you could help a substitute who sacrificed their time to help your class.

Being a Good Friend

  1. How can you be a good friend?
  2. How would you describe a healthy relationship between friends? 
  3. How would it make you feel to be teased or bullied?
  4. If you saw someone you didn’t know being teased/bullied unjustly what would you do? Why? Relate this to the clip with Augi in Wonder.
